Creating page links

Named Anchors (video)

  1. Create new basic HTML page in Dreamweaver
  2. Click the align center button
  3. Type ‘keyword index’
  4. Insert a horizontal rule (insert, html, horizontal rule)
  5. Hit enter
  6. Insert a horizontal rule (insert, html, horizontal rule)
  7. Click the left align button
  8. Copy a block of text to your page (a poem would be perfect!)
  9. Between the horizontal rules, add indexes (these will be used as links to parts of the poem or text)
  10. Add anchors to the beginning of each part of the poem or block of text
    1. Place your cursor at the beginning of the line
    2. Click the anchor on the tool bar
    3. Give the anchor a meaningful name (no spaces)
    4. Click ok
  11. Link the indexes to the anchors
    1. Highlight the index
    2. Click the chain or link on the tool bar
    3. In the link drop-down box, select the anchor that you already created
    4. Click ok
  12. Create an anchor at the top of your page
  13. Create a link at the bottom of your page pointing to the anchor at the top
  14. Type ‘Back to Home Page’ at the top of your page
  15. Highlight the ‘Back to Home Page’ line
  16. Click the link or chain on your toolbar
  17. Select your homework page by clicking the yellow folder (page is public_html/comw100/index.html)
  18. Save this file as homework3.html in the public_html/comw100 directory
  19. Open the homework page (public_html/comw100/index.html)
  20. Highlight ‘Homework #3’
  21. Click the chain or link in the toolbar
  22. Select your homework 3 page by clicking the yellow folder (page is public_html/comw100/homework3.html)
  23. Click save
  24. Upload the following files to your web space
    1. public_html/comw100/index.html (because you changed this file)
    2. public_html/comw100/homework3.html (new file)
